"Geostationary Lightning Mapper Research and Operational Applications"
Contact: Rachel Pinker

Abstract:
The Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) has motivated wide-ranging research at the University of Maryland (UMD) Cooperative Institute for Satellite Earth System Studies (CISESS).  This seminar summarizes efforts of four scientists working to better understand and apply observations from this new instrument.   The talk also introduces the new Mid-Atlantic Lightning Mapping Array (LMA) and shows the importance of such reference networks.  The remaining slides focus on the GLM, providing an overview of how new observations are validated and integrated into National Weather Service (NWS) operations.
