"20 Years of Global Precipitation Measurement with IMERG V06"
Contact: Rachel Pinker
Abstract:
The Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) is NASA's global gridded high resolution precipitation product from the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission. With close to 20 years of continuous rainfall and snowfall observations, IMERG has been used in a wide range of applications from flood and landslide prediction to water resource management to scientific studies of the water cycle.
In this talk, I will focus on IMERG, summarizing the key components of the algorithm, to demonstrate the use of such high resolution precipitation products in various applications while highlighting their issues. Being an algorithm developer, I will share some lessons learned from working on such a complex operational project. Finally, I will describe the potential future of novel precipitation observations and algorithms to augment those from satellite.
