A research team co-led by Malcolm Maas, a double-degree student in physics and atmospheric and oceanic science, has built a first-of-its-kind archive, capturing records of 100,000 twisters from the U.S. Plains to the Eastern Hemisphere.
Maas joined 15 other students nationwide in winning the prestigious honor.
After 50-plus years at UMD, alum and Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Professor Rachel Pinker will retire on February 1, 2025.
